All of us would like to be as happy as possible for as long as possible. At times we find it difficult to stay happy in the face of adversity. Is it possible to experience happiness in every moment, regardless of the situation you are in?

Yes, it is, and the magic wand that helps us do so is gratitude.

There is nothing which gives us a joy equal to that of gratitude, no matter what the situation. One hears a bird sing, sees a lovely flower, looks at a little child, observes an act of generosity, reads a beautiful sentence, looks at the setting sun, no matter what, suddenly this comes upon you, this kind of feeling—indeed so deep, so intense—that the world manifests divinity, that there is something behind the world which makes it sacred. This feeling is the joy of gratitude.

Gratitude has a certain lightness to it. It has the ability to lift you up when you are feeling low. Over time, it can help you shed the weight of any emotional pain that you might be carrying. Gratitude can aid in your healing. Gratitude can aid in silencing the mind. Its strength can at least reduce, if not do away with, incessant thoughts, worries, negative experiences from the past or scary ‘what-if’ imaginations.

Practice for the Week

Take 2 minutes and write a short gratitude note to someone who deeply impacted your life. If it energises you, brings you joy, write more gratitude notes!


Newsletter not reaching your Gmail primary tab?

There are two ways to solve this.

  1. Please add our email ieadmin@auroville.org.in to your Contacts list so the Gmail will list the Newsletter  in the primary tab.
  2. Second method is to right click the email and select "Move to primary tab" and then when the Gmail automatically asks whether to move future emails from this id to primary tab, select "yes".
