Gratitude’s Healing Touch
Gratitude has a certain lightness to it. It has the ability to lift you up when you are feeling low. Over time, it can help you shed the weight of any emotional pain that you might be carrying. Gratitude can aid in your healing. Gratitude can aid in silencing the mind. Its strength can at least reduce, if not do away with, incessant thoughts, worries, negative experiences from the past or scary ‘what-if’ imaginations.
What is Gratitude?
Gratitude is a loving and humble recognition of all that has happened and is happening to you. It is bowing down and being thankful for everything in your life, without seeing them as good or bad.
Gratitude does not arise from the mind. It is a feeling from deep within you that makes you blossom; it opens your heart and increases your receptivity.
Practicing Gratitude
When we feel hurt or pain, the immediate response in most people is to feel negatively such as anger, resentment, guilt, hopelessness, anxiety or frustration. If you consciously replace this negativity with gratitude, your positive response can turn around the situation.
The next time you encounter something that you feel is negative, try expressing your gratitude to it. It can even be a small bruise on your finger. Try saying ‘Thank you for bringing attention to this part of my body. I appreciate my finger for facilitating my routine activities and being there for me at all times, helping me in various activities. Thank you so much!’
